New Tampa Psychological Services offers family therapy which is designed to identify family patterns that contribute to behavior disorders or mental illness and to help family members break those habits. Family therapy involves discussion and problem-solving sessions with members of the family. Some of these sessions may be as a group, in couples, or one on one. In family therapy, the web of interpersonal relationships is examined and ideally, communication is strengthened within the family.
Premarital Consultation and Therapy
Whether it is your first marriage or not, entering and succeeding in a new marital relationship requires both partners to have healthy relational skills. New Tampa Psychological Services offers a short-term premarital therapy ( 6 to 10 sessions) in which the following areas might be addressed:
- Communication: Conflict Resolution, Anger Management
- Emotional Intimacy: Expressions, Blocks, Avoidance
- Sexual Adjustment: Functioning, Comfort, Satisfaction
- Commitment: Honoring Agreements, Trust, Healing
- Acceptance: Giving, Expressing, receiving
- Play: Having Fun Together
Goals typically include improving self-esteem/self acceptance, moderating stress related to relationship pattern, and enhancing the current strengths of your relationship. We work within your values framework and your feelings and reactions are discussed. Often “ homework” suggestions are made to promote new experiences, to practice skills, and to identify any roadblocks to change. Ways to maintain desired changes and avoid relapse are provided.
Caregiver Education & Support
Caregiving involves many stressors: changes in the family dynamic, household disruption, financial pressure, and the sheer amount of work involved. While providing care for a family member or loved one in need is an act of kindness, love, and loyalty, the rewards are often intangible. Frustration and despair may take hold and burnout becomes a very real danger for the caregiver. New Tampa Psychological Services team is trained to assist you and your loved ones in adjusting to the caregiving process and are dedicated to providing care to the caregiver.
